Federated Media Announces New 'Mobile Post' Technology

Participating Websites to Provide Richer, More Immediate Content

SAUSALITO, Calif. January 14, 2008 – Federated Media Publishing (FM) today announced the availability of innovative “mobile post” technology for FM’s leading Web site authors such as Boing Boing, VentureBeat, Duct Tape Marketing, PROTRADE and others. The new mobile functionality allows authors to post multimedia content while on the go. In an effort to broaden awareness of emerging mobile functionality, Microsoft’s Windows Mobile brand is sponsoring the FM technology.

FM built and is managing the mobile post technology that enables site authors to easily create and post mobile content. The new technology allows authors to create mobile voice posts, in which authors record and share their voices and other audio clips with their audiences, and mapping, in which authors share the location of their mobile post via Live Search Maps. An example of the new technology can be seen in this post on Stowe Boyd’s /Message.

Some of the Web’s most influential conversational media sites will deploy the new mobile post functionality in order to share their experiences via mobile devices. FM authors who have chosen to participate will utilize the Windows Mobile sponsored functionality as part of an emerging media technology pilot program in which any mobile device can be used to create multimedia and other interactive content.

“As the founder of Boing Boing, I am always eager to try functionality that makes that conversation more immediate,” said Mark Frauenfelder. “One of my favorite stores in Los Angeles is Coco's, and I was able to let other people know about this treasure and how to get there using the mapping feature. It makes it easier than ever to provide more and better information to my readers.”

“Sponsorship of this particular mobile post technology is the type of marketing that adds value to the content experience. Leading authors and content creators maintain control of their editorial content, while the mobile post functionality makes their sites richer – adding immediacy and multimedia content to the conversation,” said Chas Edwards, publisher and chief revenue officer at Federated Media.
