BMW Campaign “Best” in Facebook Marketing

One of our favorite campaigns from the last year – BMW’s 1 Series Facebook campaign – got the nod from Inside Facebook’s recently published Best & Worst Facebook Marketing 2009 Report.
The campaign scored an “Excellent” across categories like Content, Interaction, Design, and etc. Thanks for kind words, Inside Facebook. The report is available for purchase here. Give it a read. It’s very informative as to what the most innovative brands are doing in social networking.

IAB Course Today – Taught by Neil Chase, VP at FM

We’re proud members of the IAB here at FM for many reasons, not least of which is their dedication to industry education. Today, our own Neil Chase is teaching a course on “Marketing with Social Media and Networks.” Pete Spande taught the last IAB course back in March. If you’re able to make it over to Hotel Nikko at 1:30, I’m sure you can still register to attend.
From IAB:

June 16 – Marketing with Social Media and Networks – Taught by experts from Federated Media
Social media and social networking applications are two of the fastest growing segments of the internet. This class will provide an overview of the major players in the space and successful strategies for leveraging these online communities for marketing purposes. Specifically, it will address:
* Definition of social media and social networking
* Ways to advertise on these popular properties
* Custom apps for social networking sites
* Other marketing approaches to social media
* What doesn’t work — experiments that have gone awry
This class is intended for anyone working to understand the breadth of digital marketing opportunities available today through social media. Marketers, agency professionals and publishers will all benefit through learning the fundamentals of this channel in order to take the first steps towards executing and delivering social campaigns.

Interactive Advertising Responsible for $300 Billion of Economic Activity

The IAB issued an extensive report yesterday entitled Economic Value of the Advertising-Supported Internet Ecosystem. It’s a long piece (69 pages) so you may not want to read through the entire thing, but it’s worth reading through the executive summary at the very least. It really gives you a sense of perspective on how far we’ve all come, and all we’ve accomplished, in the last 10-15 years. Makes you stop and think about the upheaval that is the internet.
From the IAB:

In two decades the Internet has become central to social and economic life and is, today, a mature and integral element of the U. S. national economy. It is not only vital infrastructure, it is a spur to
entrepreneurship and social change. It has changed the way firms find customers, customers find
information, and people manage social relationships. It contributes significant value to the U.S.
economy by creating and maintaining jobs, facilitating the rapid flow of information, and generally
enabling the growth and prosperity of businesses. The Internet is not just a resource for large
corporations: it has created unprecedented opportunities for growth among small businesses and
individual entrepreneurs.
